Quick answer: a single-flute router bit has one cutting edge. The single flute gives maximum chip clearance and reduces heat build-up, which is why it is the standard choice for acrylic, plastics and other materials that tend to melt or weld. It also allows a larger chip load per tooth at the same spindle speed. To compare flute counts, see single-flute vs two-flute router bits.
Designed for the job, specified for your machine
YINGBA single flute router bits are solid carbide CNC cutting tools engineered for clean, chip-free cutting of acrylic, PVC and sheet plastics on CNC routers and engraving machines.
The open single-flute geometry provides room for chip evacuation and is commonly selected where clean cutting and heat control are important. Final geometry should be matched to the material, sheet thickness and spindle conditions.

Single-flute vs two-flute: which should you use?
| Single-flute | Two-flute | |
|---|---|---|
| Chip clearance | Maximum — one flute leaves more room for chips | Good, but less open than single-flute |
| Best materials | Acrylic, PVC, HDPE and other plastics; soft or gummy materials | Wood, MDF, plywood and panel finishing |
| Finish | Functional; can be coarser in wood | Finer finish in wood and panels |
| Chip load per tooth | Roughly double at the same feed | Lower load per tooth |
Flute count is a trade-off between chip clearing and finish. For the full comparison see single-flute vs two-flute router bits.
Frequently asked questions
What is a single-flute router bit used for?
Cutting acrylic, PVC, HDPE and other plastics, and cuts in soft or gummy materials where chip evacuation matters most. The open flute design keeps chips moving and limits heat build-up.
Why is a single-flute bit used for acrylic?
With one flute there is more room for chips, so material is not re-cut and friction heat stays lower. Heat is the main cause of melting and welding in acrylic, so less heat helps produce a clearer, cleaner edge. See how to cut acrylic with a CNC router.
Single-flute vs two-flute — which cuts faster?
It depends on the job. A single flute removes more material per tooth, so it can hold feed rate in soft or gummy materials, while a two-flute bit spreads the load across two edges and usually gives a finer finish in wood and panels.
Can a single-flute bit cut wood and MDF?
Yes. It works in wood-based materials, especially where chip clearing is difficult, but for the best finish in MDF and panels a two-flute bit is usually preferred.
Do I need to change the feed rate for a single-flute bit?
Yes. Chip load per tooth is roughly double that of a two-flute bit at the same feed, so recalculate before running: feed = rpm × number of flutes × chip load. Use the speed & feed calculator to check the numbers for your tool and material.
